Indiana Fever/IG

WNBA Rookie of the Year and basketball icon Caitlin Clark was announced as the featured guest of the 2025 Women’s Sports Awards on February 4th at the T-Mobile Center.

  • For the Girls: The Women’s Sports Awards are the biggest fundraiser of the year for Win for KC, a local organization that empowers women and girls through sports and fitness. Clark will speak at the event following a historic rookie season in which she was named First Team All-WNBA.

  • KClark: Clark has ties to Kansas City, growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, which is less than three hours from KC. She’s also struck up a friendship with Chiefs DL Chris Jones, who has been a vocal supporter of Clark during her rise to basketball stardom.

City Market Seeks Redevelopment of The Steamboat Arabia Museum

NSPJ Architects

City Market leaders are seeking plans from developers for a new redevelopment of the Steamboat Arabia Museum site in the River Market.

  • Float On: The Steamboat Arabia Museum has been located at 400 Grand Blvd since 1991, but the lease ends in November of 2026. The museum owner said it will not renew its lease at that location, leading the City Market Oversight Committee to issue an RFP (request for proposal) for the future of the site.

  • What’s Next: According to the committee, proposals must include street-level retail spaces, a three-star (or higher) hotel to enhance tourism, below-ground parking, and an architectural design to match the existing historic structures in the City Market area.

The official RFP from the City Market Oversight Committee can be found HERE.

Harp Barbecue is Now Open in Johnson County

  • Smoke Across the State: Harp Barbecue opened as a pop-up at Crane Brewing in Raytown in 2019, but its enormous popularity led owner Tyler Harp to open a permanent location in 2022. The restaurant announced the move across the state line in July, and it is now complete.

  • Crazy for ‘Que: Harp Barbecue’s menu of smoked meats has built a loyal following, even inside Arrowhead Stadium, where it operates two stands. It has also been recognized by a variety of national food publications, including Food & Wine, Texas Monthly, and Thrillist.
