South Loop Project Receives Funding

City of Kansas City

The Kansas City city council recently voted unanimously to support partial funding of the South Loop Park project, aimed at creating a park and green space over I-670 in Downtown KC.

  • Funding Needed: The City Council vote to add $10 million to the project is a huge win as supporters of the project have sourced roughly $115M of the $200M budget.

  • Connecting Districts: The 4.6-acre park would span the I-670 interstate trench from Wyandotte to Grand Boulevard and would connect the Crossroads District with Power and Light.

  • Inspiration or Copycatting: The Park would be designed by OJB Landscape Architecture of Houston, the same firm that built the Klyde Warren Park in Dallas that connects two major parts of downtown over a highway.

With the recent completion of projects such as Three Light and the Loews Hotel, which would both overlook the park, hopes are that the area would generate more foot traffic for locals and tourists.
