It’s Wheely Happening

Icon Experiences

This week, Icon Experiences released renderings of what the Pennway Point KC Wheel and adjacent mini golf course will look like.

  • One Wheel To Rule Them All: The KC Wheel itself has already been causing quite a stir because of its skyline-altering size. With 36 gondolas standing 150 feet tall, the public has been curious about what the project would look like when completed in November.

  • Putt Your Money Where Your Mouth Is: This week, we learned more about what the finished product will look like. The area will feature a 16-hole putt-putt course and the Wheel House, a series of redesigned shipping containers where visitors can purchase food and drinks.

  • It’s A Wheel!: Tickets for the KC Wheel have yet to be made available, but we’re told you’ll be able to purchase them soon or book the wheel for lighting events such as gender reveals or proposals.

The KC Wheel, Pennway Putt, and KC Wheel House are all set to open in November. To stay in the loop check out Wheel’s website here or follow the Wheel’s dedicated Instagram.

Forget Germany, Head For The Crossroads

City Barrel

Oktoberfest didn’t end last weekend. City Barrel is hosting a Hoptoberfest event this Friday and Saturday featuring special beers on tap.

  • Oktober Sky: City Barrel Brewing in the Crossroads will host this Oktoberfest-themed event which features a costume contest and 16 new beers on tap. As an added bonus, they’ll serve beers in those fun boot-shaped glasses.

  • Keep ‘Em Coming: The 16 beers on tap will feature some exciting new brews such as the Salted Pretzel Lager, Flannel Friday, the Canadian Tuxedo, and 5 new IPAs. All of that beer will pair nicely with the special event pretzels as well.

  • Bavaria’s Next Top Model: The costume contest will feature your best Oktoberfest attire where the winner will be decided by a vote. Winners will receive a $50 gift card and a $100 gift card for the best-dressed and best-dressed couple, so it may be time to dust off the old Lederhosen.

The 2-day event is free to enter and will start Friday at 3 pm and resume Saturday at 11 am.

Nothing Bundt Brookside

KC Daily

Nothing Bundt Cakes, the popular Texas-based bakery that serves, you guessed it, bundt cakes is taking the place of a former Brookside staple.

  • Closed Windows: After failing to find a new buyer for their store, World’s Window, owners Jan and Lonnie Buerge were forced to shut the doors to their fair trade store in March of this year.

  • Retire In Peace: The 3,200-square-foot location at 332 W. 63rd St. had been home to World’s Window since 1984. The Buerges had been hoping to hand it to a new buyer who wanted to take over the retail business so they could retire.

  • Teeny, Tiny Cakes: Nothing Bundt Cakes, which now has stores in over 40 states, has cakes of all sizes but specializes in serving delicious mini bundt cakes in a variety of flavors.

No timetable has been set for when the bakery will move in, but this new Brookside location will bring the number of Nothing Bundt Cake locations in the metro to 9.
