Former Blue Valley Student Builds a Gourmet Spice Blend Company

Max Mix

A former Blue Valley student with Down syndrome is fulfilling his dream of being an entrepreneur by building Max Mix Gourmet Spice Blends.

  • Spicy Beginnings: After growing up around Kansas City BBQ and working as a sacker at Price Chopper, Max Crawford knows and loves spices. He and his family launched Max Mix in the fall of 2023 and have been showcasing his spicy creations across the country ever since.

  • Get Your Mix: Max Mix offers three different spice blends: Chicken & Fish, Steak, and Pork. And now, Max Mix can be found on the shelves of 19 Hy-Vee stores across the Kansas City metro.

Kansas City Current Announce Partnership with Nuuly

On Monday, The Kansas City Current announced a one-year partnership with Nuuly, an online clothing rental subscription.

  • Arrive in Style: The partnership allows Nuuly to be the presenting sponsor of the club’s “Match Day Arrival” as well as receive in-stadium signage. Nuuly will offer its services to players to keep their matchday outfits fresh.

  • Double Down: Nuuly continues to expand its presence in the Kansas City area, as it opened a $60 million fulfillment center in Raymore in February. Since launching in 2019, Nuuly has garnered over 200,000 subscribers nationwide.

  • Waldo Fall-do: The event will take place on Saturday, September 21st, in the parking lots on the corner of Wornall Road and Gregory Boulevard. Want to showcase your small biz? Vendor registration is open now!

  • Where’s Waldo?: Waldo prides itself on the slogan “Keep Waldo Weird” and the Fall Fest is a great way to experience the quirky and fun vibe of the community. The event is filled with local vendors, food trucks, and fun activities for the whole family.

The Porter House KC Launches a New Incubator

The Porter House KC

The Porter House KC recently opened a new retail incubator for up-and-coming entrepeneurs.

  • Building Businesses: Daniel Smith and Charon Thompson founded The Porter House to bridge the gap between “underrepresented businesses and their access to entrepreneurial success.”

  • Start Me Up: The group launched 811 Retail Incubator this past week at 811 E. 31st St. The space offers leases from 6-18 months to entrepreneurs looking to grow their business and can operate at least 15 hours per week.
