Starlight’s New Shade

Starlight Theatre

Happy Tuesday, Kansas City! Starlight Theatre announced this week that it will see a slew of renovations including a canopy covering the outdoor theater.

  • First Time In A Long Time: Starlight Theatre is undergoing its first capital campaign in over 20 years to help make significant additions to the property that will not only enhance the viewing experience but might also help to bring some shade.

  • Adding Shade: The plans for the “Uniquely KC” campaign are to add a canopy over 3,200 seats, a production truss, a light bridge, renovated family restrooms, and an updated west entrance.

  • Halfway There?: Starlight has already raised over $21 Million for the campaign, but the overall budget for the renovations is set at $40M.

Construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2024 with the hopes of completing phase 1 by the next summer season. Phase 2 would follow the same schedule starting in the fall of 2025.

Big Stage Draws Big Names

KC Daily

Since winning the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs have added nearly 25% more corporate sponsors than they had last year.

  • Welcome To The Show: This slew of new Chiefs’ sponsors has some very recognizable names on it including Snickers, Little Ceasar’s, Scheel’s, and Sony.

  • Kidman For Kelce?: One new partnership the Chiefs were able to strike was with hometown brand AMC Theaters. They probably won’t replace Nicole Kidman with Travis Kelce, but the TE’s new girlfriend has brought quite the draw to both AMC and the NFL.

  • Big Stage, Big Money: Apparently, it pays to play in the Super Bowl. Both the Chiefs and the Eagles grew their total corporate sponsor numbers significantly since the big game.

While not the full list, you can check out a short list that the team highlighted just before the season here.

Opening

Age Is Nothing In Entrepreneurship

The Rex Catalog

Two Olathe brothers are opening their own vintage clothing store at the ages of 17 and 21.

  • Trying Something New: The Rex Catalog, a vintage clothing store founded by Reade and Thomas Rex, will open this weekend in KC’s Westside neighborhood. The store will look to diversify itself by keeping a smaller, more unique collection from the 60’s to 90’s.

  • Fresh Fits From Stale Places: Reade Rex, the curator for the business has been reselling vintage clothes online for the last 2 years. He said he finds most of his pieces at thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, and more.

  • 2 Businesses Before 22: Thomas Rex is no stranger to business either. Before graduating college in 3 years, Rex and his friends founded their own filmmaking LLC called Mountain View Pictures. He’ll now apply that business savvy to his new store with his brother.

The Rex Catalog will open this Saturday at 2645 Madison Avenue in the Westside neighborhood at 11 am. The store will operate Wednesday through Friday from 11-7 and Saturday and Sunday from 11-6.
