Mayor Lucas to Deliver KCMO State of the City Address Tomorrow
KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas will deliver the 2025 State of the City address tomorrow (2/6) at noon.
How We Doin’: The annual speech will take place in the City Hall Council Chambers and will introduce the city’s budget and vision for the following year. For examples of what the State of the City addresses entail, check out last year’s address from Mayor Lucas.
Big Plans: Kansas City has some massive developments on its horizon, and city leadership is busier than ever in preparation. Notable upcoming projects include the South Loop Project, 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations, Berkley Riverfront development, Country Club Plaza redevelopment, and more.

Food and Drink
New Concept from 54th Street Grill & Bar Opening Two New Metro Locations
Local restaurant chain 54th Street Scratch Grill & Bar is rebranding and opening two new metro locations.
New Name, New Spots: The restaurant will open two new metro locations under the name Five Four Restaurant and Drafthouse. The first will be located at Highway 50 and Route 291 in Lee’s Summit and the second in Lenexa City Center. The company will eventually rebrand all its restaurants to the Five Four name.
5-4 Good Buddy: The new locations will feature expanded food and drink menus, outdoor seating, yard games, and pickleball courts (Lee’s Summit location only). Five Four also operates restaurants in St. Louis, San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin.
The current 54th Street Scratch Grill & Bar location in Lee’s Summit (815 SE Third St.) will eventually close. Both new locations are expected to be open in 2026.

Kansas City to Host LOVB Professional Volleyball Tournament
An all-new midseason tournament dubbed the LOVB Classic is coming soon to Kansas City.
Side Out: Triple Crown Sports and League One Volleyball (LOVB) coordinate the tournament, which is held in conjunction with the Triple Crown NIT. All six professional LOVB teams compete in the winner-take-all tournament from February 14 to 16 at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City.
Best on the Court: The LOVB is a premier professional volleyball league featuring teams from Atlanta, Austin, Houston, Madison, Omaha, and Salt Lake City. Players include Olympians, members of Team USA, and former NCAA All-Americans.

🚌 Getting Around Town: Johnson County is exploring expanding its transit system in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Options include a bus service to the airport and routes from the county to the festivities.
