An Upscale Mexican Cantina is Coming to Pennway Point

Collins Webb

An upscale Mexican cantina “unlike anything else in Kansas City” is coming soon to Pennway Point.

  • Authentic Cantina: José Luis Valdez will open Urbana Sur near the KC Wheel, bringing an authentic Mexican cantina experience to Kansas City for the first time. Valdez is also the owner of Palacana, a local ice cream brand with five metro locations.

  • Taco ‘Bout It: Urbana Sur will offer made-from-scratch chilaquiles, carne asada tacos, Palomas, margaritas, live music, and more. It will also offer a walk-up Palacana ice cream stand in the back of the restaurant. Although Pennway Point has hit a few developmental delays, it will also serve as a future home for Chef J BBQ, the Lumi Neon Museum, and more destinations.

Urbana Sur expects to be open in early 2026. Learn more from the KC Star HERE.
