Tech Hub, USA

BioNexus KC

Happy Tuesday, Kansas City! Kansas City is making progress towards becoming a Tech Hub in biologics after winning a designation from the US government.

  • What Got Us Here: In October, Kansas City was announced as a future Tech Hub by a government program that would grant the region $75m in funding.

  • What’s Next: For now, the Tech Hub designation remains relatively useless until the local team assigned to it can decide how to apply the $75m. If successful, the KC area would make its case for billions more in funding.

  • We Have The Technology: The main area of focus is biologics and the creation of new vaccines to fight future pandemics. One company in the KC area that’s leading the charge is BioNexus which has been leveraging studies to improve human and animal health.

The Greater Kansas City area will submit for funding next month and after a while will be able to apply for more funding out of the 31 cities named Tech Hubs.

Cutting Your Waiting Time

Taylor Wilmore, Startland News

If you find yourself inside KCI wanting to kill time, you may consider getting your hair cut at a barbershop inside the airport.

  • Cutting Travel Stress: Directors Cut: Take Two is a full experience hair cut including a full bar and a manicure, pedicure, shoe shines, or even a massage.

  • Making The Cut: Owner, Armon Lasker, is a well-known Kansas City entrepreneur who also owns a barbershop on 18th and Vine named Directors Cut.

  • KC With All The Trimmings: Lasker said that his team seeks to give people a sense of the Kansas City flavor that they can experience from a great haircut in a local barbershop.

Travelers with a tight schedule in mind can either book a cut with the front desk attendant or call the original shop at 18th and Vine. An online booking system in on the way.
