Sports

KC > STL

KC Daily

This weekend, Sporting KC took the first game in a best-of-3, first-round playoff series from St Louis.

  • Sporting Playoffs: Sporting matched up with its cross-state rival in the playoffs after a win in penalty kicks against San Jose. This was the third time the two teams had met this season, splitting the first 2 games 1 apiece.

  • Offensive Clinic: Sporting won Sunday 4-1, an offensive explosion for a team that scored 3 goals in the first 10 games. To add to the offensive fun, Logan Ndenbe scored his first goal as a professional.

  • Continue The Skid: This marks the first time that St Louis has lost three games in a row this season. Hopefully, that streak moves to 4 as Sporting would move on to the conference semifinals.

Sporting can officially assert its I-70 dominance and close the door on St Louis’ season on Nov. 5th at Children’s Mercy Park.

Development

Development Goes East

DRAW architecture + urban design

A local Kansas City developer, Grayson Capital, has acquired land in the eastern portion of the Crossroads district with plans to add a 6-story apartment complex.

  • Adding Value: Mohawk at 15th is a 190-unit apartment complex planned for the corner of 15th and Holmes. After acquiring the former police station office from the city, developers plan to add a mix of affordable housing with luxury amenities to the area.

  • Competence Matters: The deal was struck by Grayson Capital, a minority-owned real estate group formed in June of last year which is headed up by Michael Collins, the former VP of JE Dunn and CEO of the Port Authority of Kansas City.

  • 1st Floor Kicks Butts: A fun addition to the property will come as TheDogPound, a fitness company from LA, NY, and Miami that was founded by KC-native Kirk Myers, takes the space planned for the first floor. Myers has trained celebrities including Taylor Swift, Gerard Butler, and Hugh Jackman.

The developers believe they will be able to begin construction before next summer and have the property complete by 2025.
