The Best High Schools In KC

Happy Wednesday, Kansas City! Niche, an online publication that seeks to fit students and parents with the schools that best fit them, recently graded out the best public high schools in the Kansas City area.

• Overland Park Is 👑: Niche found that Overland Park provided the best high schools in the area with 5 of the top 10, and the top 4 spots going to Blue Valley high schools. Blue Valley North claimed the top spot as the best high school in KC.

• All in the Numbers: Niche used several data points to create the rankings such as academics(weighted 50% of the overall score), teachers(15%), culture & diversity (12.5%), parents and student surveys(12.5%), and several other categories amassing the remaining 10%.

• Kansas Sweep: Lee’s Summit West was the first non-Kansas high school mentioned at #11. The entire top 10 came from Kansas, with Sumner Academy of Arts & Sciences in KCK being the only non-Johnson County school to make the top 10.

Wasting Away Again In KCK

A new Margaritaville Hotel is opening in KCK where the old Schlitterbahn waterpark used to stand.

• Jimmy’s Palace: The 229-room hotel will open directly east of The Legends at the northeast corner of I-70 and I-435. Homefield KC and Sunflower Development Group, LLC are partnering to fund the $330m needed for development.

• A Place To Waste Away: KCK’s new Margaritaville location will include an outdoor resort-style pool, an indoor pool, Buffett-style entertainment, retail locations, and Margaritaville-inspired restaurants and bars.

• Reshaping KCK: Margaritaville is part of a larger development by Homefield, the developer adding a massive sports complex in KCK. Along with the Schlitterbahn location, the former Wyandotte County Courthouse Annex will be demolished as well.

Construction has already begun on the Margaritaville Hotel with plans to open by next year.

The KIDZ Event Of The Summer

KIDZ BOP Live is coming to Kansas City this summer at the Starlight Theater.

• Good, Clean Fun: KIDZ BOP, the giant in the kids’ music industry famous for singing clean, kid-friendly versions of popular music, is coming to Starlight on July 20th.

• The Next Eras Tour?: The KIDZ BOP kids, Aleah, JJ, Shila, and Tyler, will perform off of their newest album KIDZ BOP 2024.

• What A Weekend: Presale tickets became available this past Monday. 4 different VIP ticket experiences are also available which include premium tickets, exclusive merchandise, a pre-show dance party, and a post-show Meet & Greet.
