Garden House, a plant and coffee shop combo, is celebrating its grand opening tomorrow in the Rosedale neighborhood of KCK.
The Plants: Garden House is an indoor plant shop that specializes in providing organically grown plants from the heart of the Southwest. Owners Jordan and Emily hand-select each plant that goes into their shop on trips across the country and best of all, they are available for you to purchase for your own home.
The Coffee: Garden House offers a full coffee menu from their friends at Meta Coffee Roasters. They also offer a variety of baked goods as well as gear for your at-home coffee needs. Name a better combo than caffeine and chlorophyll.
The Goods: The shop also features handmade goods from Foxtrot Studio, as well as space for a southwest-themed cocktail bar called Sagebrush. The newly-finished expansion space in the back of the shop will also allow more room for plants, events, and art.
The grand opening event for Garden House will be tomorrow, August 12, beginning at 8:30 am. The event will obviously feature all the plants you can buy, but also fresh bagels from Bread Friends, music from Haier, cocktails from Sagebrush, and the unveiling of its art partnerships as well.

The people at the companies the Kansas City Business Journal selected as the finalists for the best places to work definitely do!
Criteria: Companies ranked from extra small to extra large had employees rank their work environment through an anonymous survey administered by the KCBJ. A company had to have a minimum of 5 employees submit responses to qualify.
Culture Wars: There are 45 companies in total that could win top spots in the best places to work list, some of which may be recognizable to our readers from small firms like Safety Culture to extra-large companies like Creative Planning.
Top Dogs: The top 3 companies from each category will be announced at an event on October 19th to celebrate the 45 nominees and their employees.
To see the full list of companies selected as nominees, go to KCBJ’s website here. If you do not attend the event, winners will be announced on October 20th.

The Overland Park City Council just greenlighted a pair of transformational developments with hundreds of apartments, retail, and restaurants.
Big Changes: Despite concerns about housing density, the council's approval has paved the way for two significant projects: the Schlagel Farms and Metcalf Village developments, each bringing unique offerings to the region.
Schlagel Farms: The proposed Schlagel Farms, at 175th and Pflumm, will rezone 74 acres to make room for 300 apartments, 150 townhomes, retail, restaurants, and an event center. Construction of the project is estimated to take 5-6 years.
Metcalf Village: Metcalf Village, at 159th and Metcalf, a project by Lux Living includes 900 residential units, retail, parks, and Pickleball courts. Multiple buildings will include amenities such as a cafe, clubhouse, theater, and more.
