Kansas City’s World Cup Experience, By The Numbers

KC Daily

The 2026 FIFA World Cup™ is officially over in Kansas City. (Well, sort of — Argentina and England, who both called KC home for base camps, are still playing). Here’s a look at how the world’s largest sporting event affected our city, by the numbers:

  • 413,000+ people attended a match at Kansas City Stadium

  • 310,000+ people attended Fan Fest

  • ~200,000 people were served by Connect KC26, the official transportation service

  • 698,705 people rode the KC Streetcar in June, its busiest month ever (by far)

  • 24,266 outbound travelers went through KCI on July 12th, the busiest single day of all time

  • 131 different nations’ fans were recorded throughout Kansas City

  • 3.80 television rating in Kansas City during the first 54 World Cup matches, making it the top local market in the U.S.

  • Countless memories made 😉

Still riding that soccer high? Sporting Kansas City resumes MLS play this Thursday in St. Louis, and the KC Current welcome San Diego to CPKC Stadium this Friday.

Monstera’s Books Expanding to Space Next Door

KC Daily

Monstera’s Books, a community-favorite, independently-owned bookstore and plant shop in downtown Overland Park, is expanding to the space next door.

  • The Books Next Door: Monstera’s announced they have signed a lease at the former Torreador Restaurant, which is directly next door to Monstera’s current space, which opened in 2024. According to the post, Monstera’s will have more space for community events, products, books, and more. Updates wil

  • The Comeback: Monstera’s was shut down last August due to a fire in the space next door, and reopened in November of 2025. Although flames never reached Monstera’s space, the smoke and water damage ruined the shop’s entire inventory. Eight months later, and Monstera’s is back and (soon to be) bigger than ever!

Monstera’s Books is located at 7930 Floyd St., and is open 10-7 Tuesday-Saturday and 11-5 on Sunday.
