Development
Chiefs Will Build a New Stadium in Kansas by 2031
After months of swirling rumors and heated debates, the Chiefs officially announced they will build a new stadium in the state of Kansas.
Heading West: The Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council (LCC) unanimously approved a STAR bonds package that will cover up to 70% of the total stadium costs. The bonds will be paid off with sales tax and liquor tax revenues generated in a defined area around the mixed-use district, according to the Associated Press.
KANSAS City Chiefs: According to a statement from the Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, the team will build a “state-of-the-art domed stadium and mixed-use district in Wyandotte County, and a best-in-class training facility, team headquarters, and mixed-use district in Olathe, totaling a minimum of $4 billion of development in the State of Kansas.”
The Chiefs will begin playing in Kansas for the 2031 NFL season. Final locations, designs, and groundbreaking events will be revealed in the coming months.
