Celebrate the Release of “The Life of a Showgirl” Around Kansas City October 3-5

Taylor Swift recently announced the Official Release Party of a Showgirl on October 3-5, and theaters around Kansas City are celebrating accordingly.

  • Showgirl at the Station: Union Station will celebrate the release with showings at the Regnier Extreme Screen Theatre, Kansas City’s biggest screen. The Official Release Party of a Showgirl features the exclusive world premier of the music video, “The Fate of Ophelia”, behind-the-scenes footage of the shoot, lyric videos, and personal reflections from Taylor herself.

  • AMC You There: Can’t make it to Union Station? AMC Theatres announced it would host release parties at all of its 540 theaters in the U.S. AMC Theatres is headquartered in Leawood, just a few miles from Travis Kelce’s home where he proposed to Taylor Swift. Coincidence? We all know Taylor loves Easter Eggs…

Y2K Meets Today at New Lounge in Overland Park

A new Y2K-themed bar and lounge is now open in Overland Park.

  • Blast From the Past: Vibe Ultra Lounge is “Kansas City’s only 90s & 2000s nightlife experience” featuring throwback music, decor, technology, and pop culture references. The space features arcade games, neon lights, transparent inflatable couches (remember these?!), and a unicorn sculpture.

  • Totally Rad: Vibe offers Y2K-themed cocktails along with classics, wine, shots, and a small plate food menu. It also offers a great happy hour from 4pm-8pm, with a $3.99 cocktail and appetizer menu. They must have kept the prices from 2002!

Vibe Ultra Lounge is located at 7222 W 119th St., Overland Park and is open Wednesday through Saturday 4pm-2am.

Johnson County Park and Recreation District Awarded National Gold Medal

The Johnson County Park and Recreation District has been awarded the 2025 National Gold Medal Grand Plaque Award Recipient.

  • Premier Parks: JCPRD was named the recipient for Class I (population of 400,001+), and was one of only four finalists nationwide. The award is the highest honor in the field, and recognizes JCPRD’s excellence in planning, management, and community impact for its residents.

  • Recognizing Recreation: This marks JCPRD's third Gold Medal win since 1995. The district manages over 10,400 acres of parkland, 150 miles of trails, and 25 facilities while offering 4,000+ annual programs to approximately 10 million visitors. Executive Director Jeff Stewart credited the achievement to board vision, staff dedication, and strong community support.

  • ⚔️ Back to Battle: Last week, Kansas City leaders announced the end of the “Border War Truce” between Missouri and Kansas. The two states have been back-and-forth recently with incentives to recruit the Chiefs’ or Royals’ new stadiums.
