3D Development

Happy Thursday, Kansas City! Sushi Kodawari, a soon-to-debut stand-alone omakase restaurant, is opening a fine-dining sushi concept centered on personalized chef-led courses in The Creamery at 2100 Central Street.

  • Party of 8: The upcoming restaurant, set to be the city's first dedicated omakase establishment, promises an intimate and exclusive setting. In fact, the restaurant will only have room for 8 guests at a time and two seatings a night which is all by reservation.

  • Simple Ingredients: Sushi Kodawari is aiming to redefine the local sushi scene by focusing on nigiri, a slice of fish on rice, showcasing the intrinsic flavors of each fish, rather than relying on elaborate rolls.

  • Preset Menu: Of course, Sushi Kodawari will operate like a typical omakase restaurant by functioning on a set menu led by the chef each night. Omakase literally means “up to you” in Japanese.

Sushi Kodawari looks to open this fall in its Crossroads location. For those looking to try it, you’ll be able to book a table directly through their website. To read more, check out this article from the KC Star.

Brookside Barkery & Bath Burgeons

Brookside Barkery & Bath

Brookside Barkery & Bath’s new ownership is expanding, securing leases for two metro locations, including a flagship store in Overland Park.

  • Experience Matters: The new owners, a husband-wife team, Brian and Jennifer Murphy are leveraging Brian's corporate pet industry experience as the VP of Petsmart to scale the business while striving to preserve the local, community-focused approach that set the Barkery apart.

  • Doubling In Size: After starting in 2003, the Barkery and Bath had already expanded to two locations in Brookside and Lee’s Summit. The Murphy’s next two locations will be in Shawnee along Shawnee Mission Parkway, and a 6,500 square-foot space in Overland Park.

  • Community Feel: Brian and Jennifer felt that Brookside Barkery and Bath already had a corner on the market because local pet stores can get to know their clients and build community. Currently, the two locations bathe or groom more than 20,000 dogs a year.

The new owners say that the brand could expand to 7-8 stores in the metro. For now, you can book an appointment for grooming or bathing in their original locations on their website here.

Development

Better Late Than Never

Brookridge

After nearly a decade, the Brookridge Golf and Fitness Club redevelopment, now named Meridian, officially begins in Overland Park with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by the developer, city officials, and Governor Laura Kelly.

  • Room To Grow: The $2 billion mixed-use project aims to boost economic development, offering residential, retail, office spaces, and green areas, with plans to accommodate room for more than 16,000 jobs in the area.

  • Phase 1: The project's first phase, which was announced Tuesday, includes infrastructure work, mixed-use buildings, a grocery store, retail, restaurants, and green space, aiming to create a vibrant community for living, working, and playing.

  • A Little Help: To get the dwindling project off the ground, Meridian received $10M in grant funding from the Kansas Department of Commerce and the Kansas Department of Transportation to support its economic development efforts.

The development currently sits on a large plot north of 435 and Antioch Road. Phase 1 of the plan should be completed by 2025.
