Banksia
Banksia, the Australian Bakehouse and Cafe located downtown and in South Plaza, is moving into a larger space downtown at 12th and Main.
What’s For Brekky?: Banksia will close its location on 9th and Baltimore, and take over a space formerly occupied by Plowboys BBQ. The new location will nearly triple the seating available to downtown patrons.
Bikkies For My Mates: Co-founder, Robert Joseph, says that the new space would allow him to also triple his revenue, making options like adding a dinner service and a happy hour available.
Straya Grows: Despite an initial struggle during Covid, Banksia was able to double its revenue in the last 2 years, giving it the ability to pass on renewing its lease on 9th and seek a larger space.
If permitting goes well, Banksia hopes to open the new location at 1111 Main Street by May of this year.
Development
Golf’s Newest Neighbor

Shamrock Hills
Lee’s Summit city officials are considering a new development that would include the Shamrock Hills Golf Club.
Hole In One?: Last year, Lee’s Summit heard a pitch from local groups looking to redevelop 268 acres into a mixed-use space around the golf course with new, retail space, housing units, and space for Lee’s Summit Parks and Rec.
Taking A Mulligan: After those plans went stagnant, pitch efforts were redoubled, nearly doubling the initial budget to a whopping $413m. If completed by 2031, the project located where Highway M291 and M150 meet would be Lee’s Summit’s largest development by acreage..
The Price Is Wrong: One reason the deal went stale last year was due to funding, an issue that remains a sticking point. The developers would still require nearly $21m in tax increment financing, and residents worry that the project would raise nearby property taxes too quickly.
Should the plan be approved, developers would seek to have the project completed in phases over the next 10 years. In the meantime, Shamrock Hills will continue to operate as usual.

The Chiefs will square off against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game this Sunday at 2 pm.
New Year, Same Goal: The game, airing on CBS, will be Patrick Mahomes 6th straight AFC Championship game. This will also be the first time that Mahomes faces off against AFC foe, Lamar Jackson, in the playoffs.
Unfamiliar Territory: The Chiefs enter this game as 3.5-point underdogs and sports writers across the country have been taking the Ravens. In fact, not a single writer from USA Today gave the Chiefs the edge.
NFL Rigged?: One conspiracy theory gaining steam is the notion that the season is scripted with the Super Bowl logo colors giving away the final game. The Chiefs will seek to defy this theory as they would eliminate the only remaining purple team, a prominent color in this year’s logo.
The Chiefs and Ravens will kickoff just after 2 pm with the winner facing off against the winner of the 49ers-Lions game in the Super Bowl.
