Tapping Potential

Lee’s Summit Tribune

Happy Tuesday, Kansas City! International Tap House is set to open its fifth location, this time in Downtown Lee's Summit at the historic Bank of Lee's Summit building.

  • Banking On It: The new iTap location will have a unique horseshoe-shaped bar and plans to enhance its draft cocktail offerings. The building will have a two-level patio area, game room lounge, and innovative use of the old bank vault for keg storage that only adds to the appeal.

  • Homecoming: Lee's Summit has been a target location for iTap, with strong ties to its co-owner Brad Lobdell who graduated from Hickman Mills.

  • Food And Drink: This also marks the brand's first foray into serving food, with a sublease agreement for a 600-square-foot space within the bar to Johnny Jo’s Pizzeria.

While the exact opening date hasn't been confirmed, iTap Lee's Summit is expected to open in the summer. Until then, the location in the Crossroads is open until midnight during the week and 1:30 am on weekends.

Transportation

Training Day

Amtrak

State officials are exploring expanding Union Station's passenger rail service, adding a third daily round-trip to St. Louis, and new connections to St. Joseph and Springfield.

  • Course Correction: Coming on the back of a deadly railroad crash, MoDOT began exploring improvements to the State’s railway transportation system which would total $18.5M.

  • Reaching Further: The expansion would also provide more inter-city train options and better regional connectivity for Kansas City and other communities. The new railway would connect a portion of northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas that has 250,000 residents.

  • The Right Backing: Governor Mike Parson emphasizes the state's commitment to rail safety, with $50 million allocated in the budget for these improvements. Director Patrick McKenna also aims to implement recommendations, prioritizing safety measures.

Things Are Picking Up

Louisburg Cider Mill

There are approximately 2 trees on my block that are starting to turn color which can only mean that it’s once again fall in Kansas City. With early fall in KC comes the opportunity to pick apples at any of the city’s apple orchards. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Louisburg Cider Mill: The Louisburg Cider Mill, located just off Highway 69, is the perfect place to pick apples, enjoy some cider, or indulge in their famous apple cider donuts.

  • Cider Hill: The Cider Hill Family Orchard is perhaps the most idyllic place to pick apples among the trees. A place so beautiful that they host events and weddings frequently as well.

  • The Fun Farm: The Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch does much more than Pumpkins. The Fall Festival, which started last weekend, offers apple picking, a pumpkin patch, barnyard critters, and more!

  • Taylor Family Orchard: The Taylor Family Orchard is perhaps the most low-key of the orchards on the list, but they offer quaint picking of 4 different apple varieties.
