El DD Mexican Bar and Grill
El DD Mexican Bar and Grill in Lenexa has completed most food truck owners’ dream of opening a brick-and-mortar.
Fixer To Fabulous: After operating as El DD Street Tacos in southern Johnson County, co-owners DD Herrera and Elidia Vasquez, opened their first location together at 12804 Santa Fe Trail Drive.
The Food: El DD took off last year as people began to flock for the loaded burritos, cheesy tamales, fajita quesadillas, and, of course, tacos. All items are now staples on the new menu while adding more traditional bar and grill options like the El DD Burger.
$1.49 Tuesdays: One fun element of the new bar and grill is that they will continue to offer crispy beef or chicken tacos for $1.49 each on Tuesdays.
The new location opened this month and will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 am to 10 pm and Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to midnight. Of course, Tuesdays remain undefeated in the world of tacos.

Development
From The Ashes We Rise

Rendering by El Dorado
A prominent apartment complex from Lane4 Property Group near the Plaza is making waves with a new price tag and incentive request, a year after receiving initial approval.
A Familiar Spot: Lane4 Property Group's $140 million project at 4711 Belleview Ave., working alongside the Port Authority of Kansas City, promises a 319-apartment high-rise, breathing new life into vacant land left by the JJ’s explosion site of 2013.
The Plan: Lane 4’s plan is to build an innovative 13-story design, boasting 115 studios, 114 one-bedrooms, and 90 two-bedrooms, set atop a four-level underground garage that will offer a blend of residential living and retail space.
The Red Tape: While the initial site plan didn’t require an incentive request, the developers found themselves working through challenges like site grade and underground bedrock that would require more capital.
The incentive will likely be decided upon at the next Port Authority meeting at the end of the month. To read more about the project, check out this article from the KC Business Journal.
