I-670 to Close Downtown Through September 2028 for Luminary Park Construction

KC Daily

Plan your detours now. Both directions of I-670 between I-35 and U.S. 71 will close in early December to make way for Roy Blunt Luminary Park.

  • Road Closed: The interstate is scheduled to stay closed through at least September 2028, and Truman Road will close in both directions from Broadway to Baltimore. A full closure is needed because the covered stretch is becoming a tunnel, and its fire and safety systems must be in place before traffic returns. Lane closures on Truman, Wyandotte, and Baltimore continue through spring 2029.

  • Park It Here: Phase One builds about half the tunnel and Block One of the 5.5-acre park, from Wyandotte to Baltimore near the Convention Center. Expect walking paths, terraces, adventure play areas, art installations, and space for food trucks. Inspired by Dallas’ Klyde Warren Park, it will link the Central Business District and the Crossroads.

You can find a closure and detour map, as well as FAQs, HERE.

The SoCal-style burritos come stuffed with curly fries, including a Cheeseburger Burrito. Wash it down with a beer, margarita, or Mai Tai served in a pineapple glass!

Wacky Wednesday 🤪

I-435 in Kansas City is one of the longest beltways in the United States.

Spanning 83 miles, I-435 is the second-longest complete beltway numbered as a single Interstate Highway in the country (second to I-275 in Cincinnati). It passes through two states and crosses the Missouri River twice.

Thanks for reading today’s newsletter! If you enjoyed it, share it with someone who works or lives downtown and will be very annoyed for the next two years.
