Happy Wednesday, Kansas City! A week after several KC restaurants and bars were named finalists for the James Beard Awards, Vintage ‘78 Wine Bar pulled in a huge honor in the world of wine.

  • Top Flight: Vintage ‘78 Wine Bar in downtown Overland Park just received a three-star accreditation from The World of Fine Wine World’s Best Wine Lists. They were the only location in the Midwest selected.

  • Smells Like A Winner: The World of Fine Wine World’s Best Wine Lists is among the most prestigious awards in wine. Collecting some of the most respected sommeliers from across the world, and making the list is truly an accomplishment on a global scale.

  • London, Hong Kong, KC: The three-star accreditation for wine selection puts Vintage ‘78 in line with several Three-Michelin Star restaurants including Robuchon au Dôme and L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon (Macau & Hong Kong), Odette (Singapore), and Sketch (London).

Vintage ‘78 at 7251 West 80th Street in Overland Park is open Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30-10, Fridays from 1:30-11, Saturdays from 11:30-11, and Sundays from 11:30-9.

Business

Super Bowl = Super Boom

KC Daily

The Kansas City Chiefs making the Super Bowl isn’t just good news for Andy and the team, local KC businesses are feeling the love as well.

  • Booking Made Easy: It’s no secret that hosting a Super Bowl is good for your city, but making one is too. Since the Chiefs began their historic run in 2018, hotel revenue has spiked 32% during the playoffs each year.

  • Demand Through The Roof: Several local businesses have made a killing by pushing Chiefs merch. This year is no different as retailers, candle makers, and bakeries are pumping out Chiefs(and Taylor Swift) themed items.

  • Swifties Sell Out: Speaking of Taylor Swift, after Taylor wore this #87 ring from Brookside’s EB and Co., sales have gone bananas. “I think this is the biggest thing to happen to my business,” said owner Emily Bordner.

Whether it’s hotel bookings, restaurant specials, or retail products, one thing is certain- making a Super Bowl is good for KC on and off the field.

KCI Sets Bar Sky High

KC Daily

KCI, after opening the new terminal in February, continues to perform at a rapid pace.

  • Up In The Air: The data as of August 2023, the most up-to-date monthly data, shows that KCI is on pace for its fifth busiest year ever.

  • Coming And Going: According to data from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics, KCI hit the 11.5 million passenger mark in 2023, just the 10th time the airport has cracked the 11M mark. 2000 was the airport’s busiest year with 11.91 million passengers.

  • Planes, Trains, & Automobiles: Reports show that August, with a strong 8.4% year-over-year growth in passengers, pales in comparison to KCI’s 17.74% growth on the year.

While not record-breaking, 2023 has KCI back on a pre-pandemic pace as 2018 and 2019 delivered roughly 11.8 million passengers in each year.
