What’s Brewing In 2024?

KC Daily

Happy Tuesday and happy 2024, Kansas City! 2 local breweries finished up the year by receiving awards in national beer publications.

  • 1st In Beer: BKS Artisan Ales and Vine Street Brewing Company both wrapped up the year with recognition for excellence in the brewing world. Not only did both breweries receive plenty of attention in 2023, but Vine Street wasn’t even open for a calendar year.

  • What’s Your Location?: BKS earned its way onto Hop Culture’s list of the best beers in 2023 with its Rockhill & Locust beer. Rockhill & Locust is an English dark mild ale with smooth, warm flavors.

  • New Kid On The Block: Vine Street Brewing was named one of the 19 best new breweries in 2023 by Vine Pair after its successful launch in KC’s jazz district off 18th and Vine.

You can visit both breweries in the new year and see what all the hype is about. BKS Artisan Ales in Brookside is open 7 days a week, and Vine Street Brewing Co. is open Thursday through Sunday.

Best In The Midwest

KC Daily

In case you haven’t checked in a while, the Kansas City metro is a really, really good place to live in the Midwest.

  • Keep It Rolling: For the second year in a row, livability.com named several KC suburbs to the top 25 best places to live in the Midwest.

  • The Golden (Scalene) Triangle: Overland Park, Olathe, and Lee’s Summit were all named to the top 25 with rankings of 2nd, 6th, and 10th respectively.

  • Deja Vu: If this story sounds familiar, it should. We wrote about a similar article last summer where the same suburbs were named among the best places to live in the US.

Curious about who else made the list? Check out the full top 25 in the Midwest here.

Economy

KC’s Bottom Line

KC Daily

Kansas City saw a major bump in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in 2023, making it the second fastest-growing city in the Midwest.

  • “You’re Getting So Big”: According to a study by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, KC’s GDP grew by 3.02%, making it the 15th fastest-growing economy in the US and 2nd in the Midwest.

  • That’s Billion With A “B”: The study compared GDP growth comparing 2021 to 2022 where the KC metro grew its GDP by nearly $5 Billion.

  • Flyover $tate?: Kansas also faired well as a state. Thanks to harvest season and other factors, the state led the US in real GDP growth during the third quarter(July-Sept) of 2023.

While many factors go into GDP, it’s usually the dominant metric used to show the overall growth of an economy. While this doesn’t mean KC has one of the biggest economies in the US, it does show the metro is growing quickly.
