Weekend Roundup

KC Daily

Happy Friday, Kansas City! Here is a summary of some of the events going on around the metro this weekend:

Opening

Adding More Power to P&L

Modern Restaurant Concepts

Thrive Restaurant Group is adding two new restaurant concepts to Power and Light that had laid empty since the pandemic.

  • Homestyle Breakfast: HomeGrown, the breakfast and lunch chain that has seen lots of growth in the metro, placing its 4th location where Flying Saucer Draught Emporium used to stand.

  • Healthy Breakfast: Modern Market Eatery, which is currently building out its first metro location in Prairie Village, is slated to put its second location at 1347 Main St. which the Mixx had formerly occupied.

  • Momentum?: The move adds to the momentum that Power and Light expects to build on. Power & Light District President John Moncke said this week that he has “several exciting reveals planned for the rest of 2023”

The move comes as Thrive has announced continued expansion. HomeGrown already has 8 locations and Thrive has hinted at at least 4-5 more locations of Modern Market as well.

What’s in a Name?

KC Current

The Kansas City Current and CPKC have announced naming rights for the upcoming stadium.

  • CPKC Stadium: The club announced this week that the railway company, CPKC, will have the stadium named after it for 10 years.

  • Never Hear Of ‘Em?: In April 2023, CPKC merged two of the largest railroad companies in North America, Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, placing its headquarters in Kansas City.

  • Values > Money: While the value of the deal has not been disclosed, the Current executive team was vehement that CPKC was chosen because the values of the two teams aligned so closely.

CPKC Stadium expects to be ready by the time the KC Current begins next season. In the coming weeks, workers will add over 11,000 seats.

You Can’t Bottle Happiness, But Maybe You Can Jar It?

Beyondish

A new dessert brand by celebrity chef, Fabio Viviani, has signed a deal to bring 7 new dessert shops to Kansas City.

  • Truly Jarring: Jars by Fabio Viviani is a dessert only chain that specializes in artfully crafted gourmet dessert classics served in reusable jars. Franchisee, Troy Lovins, is looking for locations to put the 7 stores.

  • Throw It In A Jar: Jars’ menu features classics desserts from around the world served in a single Jar with favorites like Take the Cannoli, Tres Leches, Banana Cream Pie, Fabio’s Tiramisu, If You Like Pina Coladas.

  • Jars Across The Country: Jars has big plans to expand. The chain plans to open more than 500 locations nationwide. Despite only having 3 in operation, the store has 30 more that are currently under development.

Lovins will look to have the locations slated and up and running in the coming months. He has plenty of experience after a previous foray into owning several Sports Clips and Hand and Stone Massage & Facial Spa locations.
