Wheel Wednesday

DaVinci KC

Happy Wednesday, KC! Kansas City's skyline is about to get a stunning new addition: the 150-foot-tall KC Wheel in the new Pennway Point Entertainment District.

  • Dazzling Views: Icon Experiences is erecting the KC Wheel, a towering Ferris wheel, with construction reaching its final stages. The wheel will feature 36 enclosed climate-controlled gondolas, including an exclusive VIP gondola, offering panoramic views of the city's skyline, while LED lights create millions of color patterns.

  • No Matter What: The wheel, which likely will be the crown jewel of the Pennway Point District, will be operational 365 days a year, rain or shine, providing a unique and enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages.

  • Attracting Attractions: Part of what drew the ICON team to the project was the growing momentum in tourism that KC has seen in the last year. "You'd have to be living under a rock not to see everything that is just exploding in Kansas City,” said ICON’s CEO Eli Stovall.

The KC Wheel is expected to be up by this fall, with Pennway Point still slated to open early next year.

Shipley Do-Nuts

Shipley Do-Nuts a beloved Houston doughnut brand dating back to 1936, is expanding its reach into the Midwest, including the Kansas City area.

  • Help Wanted: The iconic doughnut shop, with a strong presence in the Southeast, is seeking franchisees to bring its classic doughnuts and specialty items like cream-filled doughnut bars and kolaches to the Kansas City market.

  • Mid-Best: Though it might be a year before Shipley Do-Nuts arrives in Kansas City, the brand's announcement has sparked significant interest, reflecting the local enthusiasm for its offerings and the potential for growth in the region.

  • Take Notice: Shipley Do-Nuts has garnered recognition from various food blogs and publications, making appearances on lists such as Pop Sugar's "The Best Doughnut Shops in the US."

While no timetable has been set for when Shipley would like to plant their flag in KC, the Donut chain says it has already received “plenty of inquiries.”
