When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Cake!

The Lemon Cake Bakery

A popular eatery that once called Brookside home, has gone through a rebranding and is opening soon as The Lemon Cake Bakery by Café Europa

  • Heading South: The bakery will now be located in Mission Farms at 10683 Mission Rd. They take over the space that was previously occupied by Boutique Chic on the south end of the shopping center.

  • Gearing Up: Although an official opening date for the bakery has yet to be announced, they have already begun a “soft launch", where they are fulfilling holiday orders.

  • Sweet Treats and More: In addition to providing their famous Lemon Cakes, the bakery will offer a variety of baked goods, coffee and teas, and a catering menu. After grabbing dinner at Tavern at Mission Farms (next door), stop by for dessert!

Be sure to follow The Lemon Cake Bakery on Instagram and Facebook to keep up to date on the official opening!

Development

Hospital Hill Looks to Grow

Helix Architecture

The Hospital Hill district in KCMO is seeing a variety of new developments right now, and Kansas City officials are looking to expand to three city-owned sites.

  • Inviting Collaboration: The city has put out requests for proposals for 8.6 acres of land currently owned by the city. The area is already bustling with industry, residential developments, and (obviously) healthcare.

  • Joining the Fun: Several redevelopment projects are already underway in the immediate area, including a new $120 million medical-dental building for UMKC. The three city-owned sites are nearby University Health (formerly Truman Medical Center) and Children’s Mercy Hospital.

  • Healthier. Together.: The UMKC Health Sciences District is a collaborative partnership between a total of 12 healthcare institutions. Further growth in the area would bring more opportunities for residences, restaurants, and shops.

Events

A Perfect Tradition

Brett Pruitt

One of Kansas City’s best holiday traditions starts this week at the Kauffman Center, The Nutcracker by the Kansas City Ballet.

  • A Classic On Stage: The classic Christmas tale written by E. T.A. Hoffmann comes to life each holiday season in KC courtesy of the world-class Kansas City Ballet. The show has gained national notoriety, with the Washington Post saying the show is “positively oozing charm”.

  • Perfection in Motion: Choreographer Devon Carney allows viewers’ imaginations to run wild with the talented dancers parading through the elaborate set designed by Alain Vaës. The score, written by Peter I. Tchaikovsky, is performed by the Kansas City Symphony.

  • Fun for the Whole Family: While adults can appreciate the painstaking artistry that The Nutcracker offers, children are encouraged to attend the classic tale and watch the toys take on the Mouse King.

Shows start This Friday, December 1st, and run through December 24th. Get your tickets here!
