Weekend Roundup

KC Daily

Happy Friday, Kansas City! Here are our picks for things going on around the metro this weekend:

  • It’s A Wonderful Life: A live reimagined version of It’s A Wonderful Life is coming to the stage from the Music Theater Heritage.

  • The Tina Turner Musical: Maybe we’ll finally figure out what love has to do with it at the Tina - The Tina Turner Musical.

  • The Nutcracker: Maybe you only vaguely remember, but the Nutcracker is a multi-act ballet full of wonder and nostalgia. Come see it at the Kauffman Center!

  • Chiefs At Bills: The Chiefs will take the field at Arrowhead and take on the same team from Mahomes’ famous 13-second drive.

  • SantaCon KC: Do you like pub crawls where you dress as Santa and take a party bus all over the city? This is probably for you.

  • Merry Market: Come see what all the buzz is about at the City Market’s annual Merry Market featuring over 75 holiday-themed vendors.

  • Old Dominion: ACM Group of the Year brings their No Bad Vibes tour to the T-Mobile center tonight.

Food & Drink

Where The Grass Is Actually Greener

Green Dirt Farm

Green Dirt Farm, the Weston-based cheese farm, has some exciting news.

  • Gouda Idea: The award-winning farm is bringing its local flavors and its dedication to sustainability to the Crossroads with its first restaurant outside of Weston, Green Dirt on Oak.

  • Grate To Be Here: The new 2-story space located at 1601 Oak Street will open its doors early next year and plans to serve breakfast, lunch, a “cheese hour”, and a fine dining experience in the evenings.

  • Un-brie-lievable: Of Course, no Green Dirt restaurant would be complete without heaps of cheese. The restaurant plans to offer seating with a view of the cheese-making process, which they plan to make and sell inside the restaurant.

Green Dirt on Oak will open in February of next year. If you just can’t help yourself, you can drive to Weston to sample the farm’s Creamery Cafe.

Sports

December Is For Basketball

KC Daily

The T-Mobile Center is going to be one busy place over December, hosting 3 separate college basketball games during that span.

  • First Take: Up first, Mizzou will take on Seton Hall on December 17th. This will be the first time the Tigers have played in Kansas City in 4 years.

  • Battle Of The Plains: On a game just 4 days before Christmas, Kansas State will take on in-state opponent Wichita State.

  • They Can’t Get Enough: On December 30th, the T-Mobile Center will close out the new year with a game between KU and Wichita State. This will be the Shocker’s second game here in 9 days, but I wouldn’t think they’ll feel too at home.

So rather than just spending the Holidays with your uncle falling asleep on the couch watching the games, why not go and be a part of the action? Tickets are still available!

Development

They Paved Paradise

City Of Merriam

Final plans are in place for Drake Development to replace the former location of the Kmart in Merriam just off I-35.

  • Death Of An Icon: The old Kmart in Merriam, which remained empty for the better part of a decade, was demolished in October and finally will be turned into a new restaurant space.

  • In With The New: Drake Developments has been redeveloping the 14-acre area at the intersection of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Antioch into a new restaurant and apartment area named Merriam Grand Station.

  • Developing Merriam: The Merriam Grand Station is finally taking shape as the developer has submitted plans for two central buildings in which they plan to add restaurants in between the surrounding new apartment complexes.

The apartment complex and restaurant portion of the Merriam Grand Station development are on track to be completed in 2025.
