Where There’s Smoke, There’s Construction: Most of the competition is limited to invited teams this year due to ongoing construction at the new campus at 1899 American Royal Way in KCK. This limited format is expected for the next few years, as construction continues. Full completion is expected by 2029.

A Bunch of Pigs: The one public event will take place on Friday night from 5:30-10:30. PigaPalooza is a whole hog competition with pitmaster presentations and samples, a full BBQ buffet, sides from Zarda, a Snake River Farms Wagyu hot dog bar, full bar, and live music from Outlaw Jim & The Whiskey Benders.

Cheers to Crown Center: One of the season’s highlights, KC Oktoberfest returns Oct. 2–3 at Crown Center Square. Celebrate Bavarian culture with traditional food, beer, live music, dancing, and plenty of festive entertainment. The two-day festival brings the sights, sounds, and flavors of Germany to Kansas City.

Fall Finds: There’s even more to explore at Crown Center shops, with gifts, apparel, home goods, and other unique finds. New this fall, Shop Local KC is offering fresh flowers alongside its selection of locally made products and gifts.

Read Together: The festival features a full day of author talks, panels, workshops, storytimes, book signings, regional vendors, and food trucks. This year’s authors include Giselle Anatol, Victoria Aveyard, Tessa Bailey, Soman Chainani, Daniel Miyares, Sierra Simone, and Tayari Jones.

Book It!: The festival technically kicks off on Friday night at the Mid-Continent Public Library - Woodneath Library Center for an Evening with Tayari Jones, but tickets are sold out. Saturday’s schedule is filled with events happening throughout the Central Library.
