New Restaurant Opens in Former Rieger Hotel

A new “Italian Joint” has opened this week inside the former Rieger Hotel in the Crossroads.

  • Who’s the Wise Guy?: Zach Marten and Bret Springs, co-owners of the Rockhill Restaurant Group, have opened The Wise Guy. The restaurant will offer Tavern-style pizza, pasta, salads, and other Italian entrees.

  • Big History Guys: The duo wanted to keep the history of the building intact, from the tile work to the light fixtures. The name is a nod to the gangsters like Al Capone who visited the hotel which closed in 2020.

  • Green Beer: On Wednesday, April 24th Boulevard will be offering a Sustainability Tour to celebrate planet Earth. Visit their zero-landfill facilities and learn how they produce and bottle their beer in a sustainable manner. Oh, and did we mention free samples?

  • Sense of Responsibility: Being one of the largest craft brewers in the country, Boulevard has put sustainable brewing methods into practice since they removed the last dumpster from their facility in 2011. Learn more about their sustainability practices HERE.

A New Antique Shop is Coming to Midtown

The founder of Nell Hill’s is opening an antique micro-shop in midtown KC.

  • “Retail Brats”: Owner Mary Carol Garrity is teaming up with friend Rebecca Wood to open diebolt’s, a 400-square-foot micro-shop that will be located within Gillham House Antiques in midtown. They will join six other antique dealers in the 29,000-square-foot space at 3235 Gillham Plaza.

  • What’s In-Store: Garrity has a lifetime of experience in home furnishings and retail, and will infuse it into the tiny space. diebolt’s will offer antique lamps, tableware, vases, and more. Follow them on Instagram to see what’s on display.

The shop is set to hold a soft opening on April 19th.

Vine Street Brewing to Host Screening of “One Pint at a Time”

One Pint at a Time

Vine Street Brewing will host a special screening of the 2021 documentary “One Pint at a Time”.

  • Diversity Matters: One Pint at a Time is a documentary that follows several black brewers working to make their dreams a reality and changing the status quo in brewing. Vine Street Brewing Co. is the first Black-owned brewery in the state of Missouri.

  • Popcorn and Beer: The event will feature a panel discussion with the filmmakers and a bottle-share party, which will allow you to sample beers from other Black-owned breweries across the country. Proceeds from the event will benefit the National Black Brewers Association, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and the American Jazz Museum.

The event is this Friday and Saturday and tickets can be purchased HERE.
