Green Street Opens This Weekend in Downtown Lee’s Summit

This upcoming weekend, Lee’s Summit will celebrate the grand opening of Green Street, an vibrant community gathering space.

  • Going Green: Construction on Green Street began in 2024, and this weekend (August 15-17), it will officially open to the public. The project, which is located next to the Lee’s Summit City Hall at 209 SE Green St., features an outdoor gathering space called Market Lawn Grove, an indoor Farmers Market, playground, and more.

  • Grand & Green: The three-day grand opening celebration starts Friday at 6pm with a block party that features a ribbon cutting, food trucks, and live music. Saturday is Family Fun Day, with the Farmers Market kicking off at 8am before a full day of family-friendly activities. And Sunday is Wellness Day, with family stroller & dog walks, yoga, fitness classes, and a wellness fun fair.

Global Korean Fried Chicken Restaurant Eyes Kansas City Expansion

Bonchon

A global fast-casual restaurant known for its Korean fried chicken is eyeing expansion into the Kansas City market.

  • Korea to KC: Bonchon announced Kansas City as one of 15 priority expansion markets, with an initial plan of six metro locations. The chain currently boasts 482 locations across the globe, but hopes to expand to 1,000 over the next five years. Bonchon briefly opened in Lee’s Summit in 2015, but closed after just a few months.

  • Love That Chicken: Bonchon’s menu is highlighted by its famous Korean fried chicken that’s offered in the form of wings, drumsticks, strips, and boneless. Bonchon also offers a variety of globally-inspired main dishes, starters, sides, and desserts. Korean donuts, anyone?
