Earlier this week, the Chiefs announced the two finalists for the lead designer role on a new stadium in KCK: MANICA and Populous. Both firms are local to Kansas City and are world-renowned design firms specializing in sports and entertainment venues.
Here are a few notable projects from each firm:

Stade Hassan II — Casablanca Stadium - Casablanca, Morocco
Projected to be the largest football stadium in the world (115,000)
New Highmark Stadium - Buffalo, New York
New home of the Buffalo Bills starting next season
MANICA
Allegiant Stadium - Las Vegas, Nevada
Home of the Las Vegas Raiders and UNLV Rebels
Osaka Arena - Osaka, Japan
Second largest arena in Japan
Birmingham City Football Club Stadium - Birmingham, UK
12 towering chimney-like structures inspired by the site’s brick manufacturing history.

Could an NBA Team Return to Kansas City?
As the NBA is expected to make a decision on expanding from 30 to 32 teams in 2026, we’re wondering if there is any chance for a return of an NBA franchise to Kansas City.
Return of the Kings: KC was once home to the Kansas City Kings, an NBA franchise that played at Kemper Arena from 1972 to 1985. The franchise relocated to Sacramento in 1985, where they call home to this day. Prior to landing in KC, the franchise was known as the Cincinnati Royals, but eventually changed its name to avoid confusion with the baseball team.
Uphill Battle: Although Kansas City has been tossed around in NBA expansion talks for years, we likely face an uphill battle landing a franchise in the near future. Seattle and Las Vegas are the two clear front-runners for domestic expansion, with a Europe-based league also on the horizon.
