World Record = Broken

Endless Game KC

Yesterday, a remarkable baseball game captured the attention of Kansas City as it went on for more than four days. "Team Courage" and "Team Strength" battled it out in the "Endless Game," aiming to break the world record for the longest baseball game in history.

  • For The Cause: Beyond the world record attempt, the event served as a fundraiser, with a target of $300,000. Proceeds will go to various local charities, including Operation Breakthrough, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Veterans Community Project, Gift of Life, and several others.

  • Rigorous Rules: Every player had to remain on-site throughout the game, with no replacements allowed for injuries or fatigue. Players ranged from 22 to 74 years old, enduring physical strain as they took on baseball history.

  • Mission Accomplished: The world record was broken yesterday evening as the game crossed the 83-hour and 14-minute mark. The game was officially called at 100 hours and 1 minute with more than 600 runs scored.

Opening

The Best Wine Comes Chill

Marco Polo Selections

A new wine shop, originally from Waldo, opened last week in Olathe which promises to offer great wine without all the pretense.

  • Fine Wine On A Dime: Marco Polo Selections, owned by Nate Riley, offers a “super, super laid-back” approach to wine. Riley’s belief that fine wine doesn't need a high price tag or an elitist attitude has already built a successful client base at his original location at 75th and Wornall.

  • Ready For Business: The new store at 106 Cherry Street in Olathe opened last Friday with a tasting wall of sample-ready wines and a chalkboard helping customers choose their preferred drink.

  • For The Novices: The store's staff is trained to assist customers, regardless of their wine knowledge, creating an approachable wine-buying experience. With wines starting at $13, it won’t break the bank to sample wines from across the globe.

The new Olathe location will operate from noon to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, to accommodate a broad range of wine enthusiasts.

Major Glow Up

Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium

This fall, the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium will welcome back the GloWild Festival which features hundreds of handmade sculptures lighting up the zoo.

  • Glow Trotters: This year’s “Around the World” theme will feature lantern towers, up to 50 feet tall, which will turn the Zoo and Aquarium into a wonderland of glowing sculptures.

  • Heavy Lifting: Using more than 74,000 pounds of steel and over 940,000 feet of silk, the 151 artisans used to create the wonderland which stretches over 1 mile across the grounds.

  • Get Lost: Partnering with the Zigong Lantern Group, one of the main attractions will be a 30-foot Globe sculpture that families can walk through for an immersive experience.

Early bird tickets for the event are still on sale now. From September 29 through November 4, the Festival will be open most nights, except for Mondays, starting at 6 pm.
