Grab a Sundae on Sunday For National Ice Cream Day

Fairway Creamery
Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, and it couldn’t have come at a better(or hotter) part of the summer. If you’re like us and want to celebrate by indulging in a scoop or three, we’ve included a guide to our favorites in the area. Regardless of where you celebrate, be sure to wish your family and friends a happy National Ice Cream Day on Sunday.
Betty Rae’s: Who can think of Kansas City and ice cream without thinking about Betty Rae’s? Located in the River Market and Waldo, the brown butter pecan will never let you down.
Fairway Creamery: In the heart of Fairway on Mission Rd lays Fairway Creamery, a delicious ice cream shop that is also known for its donuts.
French Custard: Since opening on the Trolley Track in Brookside, French Custard has offered delicious French-style custard to pedestrians and vehicles alike. The cinnamon churro is our fav!
High Hopes: Found on Troost Ave, High Hopes offers unique flavors like Strawberry Birthday Cake and Malted Mushroom. It’s a perfect after-dinner snack if you eat at Barbacoa down the street.
Flying Cow Gelato: Our favorite pick for ice cream's low-fat cousin, Gelato, comes from The Flying Cow. Offering cups, sundaes, and a long list of toppings, this gelato spot is sure to please the whole family in Westwood Hills.
The Golden Scoop: Offering service with a smile from individuals with developmental disabilities, The Golden Scoop is non-profit ice cream in Overland Park that is sure to make you feel good about your decision.

Kansas City on The Fringe

Fringe Festival KC
This weekend, Kansas City will celebrate the 19th anniversary of the KC Fringe Festival from July 14th through the 30th.
What is Fringe Fest: KC Fringe Festival is a celebration of working artists in film, visual arts, and performing arts being showcased all across the city. This year’s Fringe Fest will include 54 stage productions featuring nearly 300 performances, six films, and 35 visual artists.
Professional Artists: One misconception about KC Fringe Fest is that the performers are merely untested amateurs, but it features many artists like comedian Jon Bennett who has performed at nearly 150 Fringe Festivals across the world.
Fringe On Film: This year’s Fringe Fest will kick off with a weekend of films from over 45 regional filmmakers at the Stray Cat Film Center.
For a full list and map of performances over the 2-week Fringe Festival, go to KC Fringe Fest’s website here. Tickets for each performance will be $12 with discounts available for bulk buying.
Opening
A New Bar For The Sober Curious

Kaylie McLaughlin/Shawnee Mission Post
Wild Child, a new “Low and No” alcohol-level cocktail bar is opening next Wednesday in Downtown Shawnee.
Sober Curious: Sober Curiosity is a new trend sweeping the internet, and the owners of Drastic Measures, the James Beard Award Finalists, have stepped in to open their own cocktail and wine bar offering drinks with no or low alcohol by volume beverages.
Wild Child: Wild Child sets out to do something that most bartenders find difficult- create delicious mocktails for those who want to have the experience of having a drink, but prefer that experience be without alcohol.
The Menu: The Wild Child menu will still feature your favorites like an Old Fashioned or French 75, but with alcohol replacements that still offer the same taste. The menu will also include low-alcohol wines and non-alcohol cocktails, as well as bottled no or low cocktails as well.
Wild Child will open on Wednesday, July 19th at their location in Downtown Shawnee at 11022 Johnson Drive. They will be open Wednesdays to Fridays from 5 pm to 11 pm, Saturdays from 1 pm to 11 pm, and Sundays from 1 pm to 8 pm.
