Bargain shoppers, rejoice! The Missouri Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is this Friday through Sunday
School is Cool: With July coming to a close, it’s time to start thinking about kids going back to school (boo). The good news is the annual sales tax holiday in Missouri is this weekend, Aug. 2-4, offering savings of 8-9% on certain back-to-school items.
Happy Holiday: All state AND local sales taxes are waived on items such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and more. Check here to learn more about all the specifics of qualifying items.
Although Kansas doesn’t offer a sales tax holiday, residents are free to hop across State Line and get in on the savings this weekend!

Seven Pizza Places to Try in Kansas City
In the words of the great Michael Scott, pizza is “the great equalizer”. Frankly, Kansas City has never really had a reputation as a good pizza city, but a few spots are looking to change that. We’ve put together a list of a few of our favorite places across the metro that offer a variety of different styles of ‘za. SPOILER: in honor of our cross-state rivalry, St. Louis-style is NOT included.
What spots do we need to try next? Reply to this email and let us know!

Don’t Give Up Hope on the Rio Theatre in Downtown Overland Park
After closing during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, The eye-catching Rio Theatre in downtown Overland Park hopes to open again.
Return to Glory: Owner Brian Mossman, who also owns the Glenwood Arts Theatre in Overland Park, says ticket sales are trending in the right direction to allow Rio to reopen, but they aren’t quite there yet.
A Piece of History: The Rio opened in 1946, and was then purchased by the City of Overland Park in 1988 for preservation purposes. The Moderne-style architecture (similar to Art Deco) is on full display, with neon lights, peach porcelain tile, and aluminum trim.
Want to see the Rio reopen? Support Mossman’s Glenwood Arts, and go catch a flick!
