KC Is a Top Destination in 2024

KC Daily

Happy Monday, Kansas City! The Wall Street Journal recently named Kansas City one of the 10 best places to visit in 2024.

  • More Than A Swift Note: Kansas City has been the darling of several 2024 travel lists for many reasons other than the budding relationship between Travis and Taylor.

  • Big Sports City: The article highlights CPKC Stadium, the first for women only, opening in March as well as Picklecon, Pickleball’s inaugural event with over 100 courts devoted to the event.

  • Developing News: Beyond the usual draw of the BBQ and Jazz, the development around downtown was featured, namely the Rock Island Bridge and Pennway Point, home of the KC Wheel.

Economy

Quid Pro Quo

The Chiefs and Royals are committing to staying put in Jackson County as long the county voters agree to a new tax bill.

  • Was That A Yes?: The Royals have been playing chicken with the county, looking at taking the stadium north of the river, but it would appear that this is the sign they would prefer to build the new $2B stadium downtown.

  • Well, I Do Declare: The teams announced in a joint statement this week that they would add a vote to the April ballots for KC voters to extend a 3/8-cent sales tax for 40 years, roughly worth around $200 million.

  • A Little Glow Up: The Chiefs would also use the tax incentive to give Arrowhead much-needed renovations. Both teams believe the bill would prove mutually beneficial given the economic impact they each bring.

An extension of the 3/8 sales tax will be back on the ballot in April should city officials be able to add the issue by January 23.

Opening

Northern Wines

Cooper’s Hawk

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant, the national chain that serves wine and food in an upscale atmosphere, is expanding to its third location in the metro.

  • Going North: Cooper’s Hawk will place its next location in the Twin Creeks Village development northwest of Platte Purchase Drive and Tiffany Springs Road.

  • Northland Is Poppin’ Off: This marks the third location for the chain in Kansas City alongside the Plaza and Lee’s Summit. Beyond that, it joins a host of other chains to jump north of the river such as McLain’s and Third Street Social.

  • Wine, Wine, & More Wine: Cooper’s Hawk’s menu consists of steak, poultry, seafood, burgers, salads, and surf-and-turf dishes, among other items. Its main offering comes from the over 700,000 cases of wine the company’s vineyards produce each year.

No timeline has been set by Cooper’s Hawk for completion. The Twin Creeks Village development will seek final approval of plans next month.
