Happy Friday, Kansas City! Can you believe it’s almost the end of 2023? Since launching in May, we’ve had a blast curating the best stories that are going on around Kansas City. Here are some of our favorites from the past year:

• 🛣️ South Loop Project: Since news initially broke about The South Loop Project, it’s been the most exciting development on our radar. Who wouldn’t want to see KC add a park that connects Power and Light to the Crossroads?

• ☕️ KC’s Best Coffee: Our favorite guide we put together this year was the list of our favorite coffee shops in Kansas City. Not only did we get to try lots of coffee, but we also got to experience all the vibes.

• 🏰 Disney Comes To Kansas City: Disney choosing KC as ground zero for opening its vault to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary is huge. The exhibit coming next year is bound to be the most fun since we visited Disney World as kids!

• 🏟️ Royals Stadium Drama: KC residents can’t think about this year without thinking about the will-they, won’t-they back and forth of the Royals’ new stadium. It isn’t decided yet, so the question remains: KC, NKC, or somewhere else?

• 🚶‍♀️A Reimagined Plaza?: When Mayor Lucas tweeted out images of a more walkable Plaza, Kansas City X(Twitter) went crazy. Could they close the main road to make it more walkable? Maybe. Are we interested? Yes!

Running Out Of Battery

Swarovski, the global jewelry retailer, is taking the place of an E-bike shop on the Plaza.

• Running Out Of Charge: Less than 6 months after moving into the Plaza, Himiway Bikes, is closing its storefront for the high-end electric bicycle brand on the Plaza.

• Diamonds Are The Plaza’s Best Friend: In its place, Swarovski, the high-end, jeweler who specializes in varieties of diamonds, will take over the storefront at 230 Nichols Road. The Austrian brand previously held a spot on the Plaza that it forfeited in 2013.

• Diamond Money: Earlier this month, the jeweler filed a tenant finish/remodel application that would require a buildout costing the brand around $425,000.

This comes as good news to the Plaza who found out this month that it will lose another retailer this month after Soft Surroundings filed for bankruptcy.

Nightmare On Broadway Blvd

The Kansas City Symphony will be playing an accompaniment with a screening of Nightmare Before Christmas.

• Jack Vs Santa Claus: Tim Burton’s iconic Christmas/Halloween masterpiece is full of famous music like Kidnap The Sandy Claws and What’s This?

• An Icon’s Legacy: The Kansas City Symphony will perform this weekend as they play a rendition of Danny Elfman’s original soundtrack that he wrote for the film.

• Movies Are In: Burton’s movie with a twist on the traditional Christmas story comes as yet another film that the Symphony has played along to. Earlier this year, the symphony also played an accompaniment to Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1.

The show will run this weekend only with performances starting last night and ending Sunday afternoon. Tickets are still available.
